In Rubizhne, Luhansk region, Russian invaders blew up a tank with nitric acid, city residents were urged to close windows and put on wet masks
This was announced by the head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration Sergiy Gaidai in Telegram.
"In Rubizhne, the orcs hit a tank of nitric acid. Don't come out of hiding!
If you are indoors, close doors and windows. Prepare wet face masks!", Gaidai wrote.
He also warned of the dangers of nitric acid.
"Nitric acid is dangerous when inhaled, swallowed and when it contacts the skin and mucous membranes. Acid vapors cause an irritant effect on the respiratory tract. In case of mild poisoning, there are signs of bronchitis, mild bronchiolitis, dizziness, drowsiness; in case of severe poisoning - pulmonary edema. Use gas masks to protect yourself against nitric acid vapors and mists. With local exposure to the eyes, nitric acid causes severe damage with large necrosis of the cornea and conjunctiva, which leads to loss of vision", Gaidai warned.
He also gave advice on first aid for exposure to the substance.
"If nitric acid gets into the eyes, it is necessary to rinse them with running water for 10-30 minutes. If it gets on the skin, wash the affected surface with water, adding baking soda and soap to it. If nitric acid is swallowed, gastric lavage with plenty of water is required", Gaidai advised.
