If Russia walks back negotiation claims, it can easily break any agreements
It took Russia just two days to backtrack on their promise of peace talks without any conditions
Last Friday, Putin promised this to Witkoff, and just yesterday Lavrov made a completely opposite statement: once again demanding "denazification" and "demilitarization."
It’s clear that Putin is lying — and that poses a problem not only for the negotiation process, but also for any future peace that might follow a hypothetical agreement
If they’re already walking back their own claims about being ready to negotiate, they’ll just as easily refuse to honor any agreements tomorrow.
That’s why the only guarantee of an effective peace process is the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Supplying weapons, military equipment, and providing comprehensive support to Ukrainian troops will do far more to advance Donald Trump’s peace initiatives than hundreds of hours of empty talks with Putin.
