IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi made the statement.
As of 6:00 pm Kyiv time, the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir fell by 2.8 meters, reaching 14.03 meters.
Currently, the hourly loss rate has slowed down slightly to between 5 and 7 cm/hour, as opposed to yesterday's rate of 11 cm/hour.
Grossi added that if the water level drops below 12.7 meters, Zaporizhzhia NPP will no longer be able to pump water from the reservoir to the site.
"As the full extent of the dam’s damage remains unknown, it is not possible to predict if and when this might happen. If the current drop rate were to continue, however, the 12.7 meter level could be reached within the next two days," Grossi said.
The statement said that in preparation for such a scenario, ZNPP is replenishing its reserves from the Kakhovka reservoir while it is still possible.
At maximum capacity, these water sources will supply the plant with the necessary water for cooling six reactors and spent fuel for several months.
On June 6, Russian occupying forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP.
Energoatom stated that the destruction of Kakhovka HPP could have negative consequences for ZNPP, but the situation is currently under control.
At President Zelenskyy's call, IAEA Director General Grossi said he would lead the next IAEA mission to ZNPP after Russia's destruction of the Kakhovka HPP.
On June 7, the mayor's office in Enerhodar, where the ZNPP is located, said that residents should leave the city, as the situation at the plant could get out of control at any time.
