Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártó made the announcement on January 23 in Brussels.
According to him, the "atmosphere of war" continues to prevail in Brussels.
"Our position is clear: we need peace as soon as possible... Any decision that could lead to the continuation or potential escalation of the war is against our interests, so we do not think that increasing arms supplies is a good idea, but at the same time we do not prevent the implementation of the European Union's decision in this regard," Szijjártó said.
However, the minister once again alleged the oppression of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine. Szijjártó is displeased that Hungarian national symbols are being removed from government buildings in the Transcarpathia region of Ukraine.
"These are all signs of a serious, concentrated anti-Hungarian attack," he said.

In December 2022, EU ambassadors approved a financial support package to provide Ukraine with EUR 18 billion in 2023. Previously, Hungary vetoed the package. Politico reported that the EU had struck a deal with Hungary to get Orban to unblock EUR 18 billion for Ukraine.
