Germany to allocate EUR 20 million to pay for Starlink services for Ukraine
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, during her visit to Kharkiv on Tuesday, has announced assistance to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 20 million to finance Starlink satellite communication services
The press service of the German Foreign Ministry reported the allocation.
“Ukraine has asked Germany to help finance the Starlink satellite link. Foreign Minister Baerbock announced today that Germany will make available 20 million euro to this end,” the statement reads.
The funds will be used to finance the work of 10,000 Starlink terminals, a third of which will be transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Communication in real time allows Ukrainian soldiers to precisely coordinate their efforts to defend their homeland and protect themselves more effectively from Russian attacks,” the German Foreign Ministry said.
Also, according to the German Foreign Ministry, during the trip to Kharkiv, Baerbock discussed with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba further military support of Berlin to Kyiv, ways to bring Russia to justice for war crimes and the prospects of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
As reported earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Kharkiv on Tuesday. Baerbock became the first German official to visit the city since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. She is also the first foreign minister to visit Kharkiv since February 2022.
