Germany plans to increase production of IRIS-T amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine
A German arms company has announced its intention to increase production of its IRIS-T air defense system in response to growing demand due to Russia's war against Ukraine.
Deutsche Welle writes that Harald Buschek, program director at Diehl Defense, said the company plans to build eight systems by 2025, which would be an increase from the three to four systems it plans to build this year.
The production of the missiles is tripling this year and will be increased next year with the production of 400 to 500 missiles from 2024, told Buschek reporters.
Germany has already delivered two IRIS-T systems to Ukraine, where they are used to defend Kyiv against Russian missile attacks.
Berlin has promised to supply Kyiv with six more IRIS-T air defense missile systems, with the first of six systems expected to be delivered to its air force in October 2024.
