The information was revealed in a joint investigation by NDR, WDR and Suddeutsche Zeitung.
The combined cost of the paintings amounts to €5 million.
The investigation claims that the Usmanov’s yacht arrived in the port of Hamburg for an overhaul in late 2021. Since then the paintings have been apparently stored there. Among the paintings is a work by Marc Chagall, the French-Russian expressionist.
Usmanov's representative emphasized that the art objects in question allegedly do not belong to the oligarch. So there was no need to report them to the German authorities.
Because of his strong links to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Alisher Usmanov was sanctioned by the EU following Russia's invasion on Ukraine in February.
