German Foreign Minister warns against underestimating Russian threat

According to Spiegel, Wadephul made the remarks in an interview with a group of German media outlets.

He emphasized that Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine remains the greatest security threat to Europe and the most pressing issue in Germany’s foreign policy agenda.

Wadephul also warned that the danger extends beyond Ukraine, directly impacting Germany itself.

“Russia is a direct threat to our peaceful way of life and to freedom here in Germany,” he said.

In a previous interview with Spiegel, the minister noted that the more pressure the West applies on Russia, the more likely it is that Vladimir Putin will agree to genuine negotiations. He also stressed that military support for Ukraine is “essential for preserving our own freedom.”
