EU's interest: Georgian President calls to prevent Russian Black Sea monopoly
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has emphasised the need to prevent Russia from becoming an exclusive power in the Black Sea
Zourabichvili said this during a discussion at the Munich Security Conference, Ukrinform reports.
"I think that it is in the interests of the European Union and, of course, Georgia, for the sake of our security and our ties with Europe, to prevent Russia from becoming an exclusive power in the Black Sea, which it is trying to achieve. And this is important for the future, but also for the communications that will be so important in the coming years and decades for the security of energy transportation. We must prevent this," the President of Georgia stressed.
She also noted that security is the main thing now, and this need for security should be felt by the EU at the same time.
According to Zourabichvili, the previous enlargement of the EU actually provided additional security for the entire European Union.
"And the next enlargement, our enlargement, will bring additional security to the European Union and to us. This is what solidarity and common values are. And we have a very important security issue that we don't talk about enough - the Black Sea," the Georgian leader stressed.
- Earlier, Zourabichvili said that Russia failed to break Ukraine and launched a new hybrid war against Georgia, using all forms and weapons.
