French retailer Auchan plans to open a new store in Russia selling almost exclusively private label products, doubling down on its presence in a market that many other Western retailers have avoided due to Russia's war in Ukraine, Reuters reports.
Auchan Retail Russia stated that 90% of the 900 items in the new ‘My Auchan’ store will be foodstuffs offered under Auchan's own brands.
Ukraine called for a boycott of Auchan after the French retailer decided to stay in Russia despite other major companies having left the terrorist state, including McDonald's and Nike.
According to Auchan, offering the population in Russia high-quality goods at reasonable rates is the company's primary goal.
