EU's move to provide Ukraine with ammunition brings victory closer – FM Kuleba
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has praised the EU's decision to provide 1 million rounds of ammunitions as a strategic step that brings victory closer
Ukraine’s top diplomat Dmytro Kuleba wrote about this on Twitter.
“I applaud this strategic move that will bring our victory closer. It sends a strong message of European unity and commitment to defend shared ideals,” he tweeted.
The Ukrainian foreign minister emphasized that on Monday, March 20, 17 EU countries and Norway signed an agreement on joint purchases of ammunition for Ukraine and their national stockpiles.
It is not yet known which EU countries will participate in the joint procurement.
EU foreign and defence ministers are still calibrating a €1bn plan for the joint procurement of ammunition. Ministers are also discussing a separate €1bn proposal to compensate member states that supply Ukraine with ammunition, via the European Peace Facility.
As a reminder, Hungary refused to participate in the EU project to purchase 1 million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that countries that “advocate peace” are allegedly under pressure, but Hungary will continue to oppose military aid to Ukraine.
Today, 17 EU member states and Norway signed a deal on joint procurement of ammunition for Ukraine and their national stockpiles. I applaud this strategic move that will bring our victory closer. It sends a strong message of European unity and commitment to defend shared ideals.
