European Council President lists "fundamental conditions" for Ukraine's EU membership
President of the European Council Charles Michel says that reforming the court system and fighting corruption are among the "fundamental conditions" on Ukraine's way to the EU
He made the statement in an interview with Suspilne.
According to the European Council president, reforms aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, especially the rule of law, the fight against corruption, and the independence of the judiciary are fundamental conditions for joining the EU. He believes the Ukrainian authorities realize that it is a priority and that in just a few months Ukraine has made significant progress and taken steps in the right direction.
Charles Michel noted that over the next few months, the European Commission will present reports that will show Ukraine what additional steps it needs to take on its way to the EU.

On January 2, Ukraine's Office of the President announced that the Ukraine-EU summit would take place in Kyiv on February 3. Today, Charles Michel arrived in Kyiv.
