Europe will stand up to Russian energy blackmail - US diplomat
The diplomat, former adviser to the US Secretary of State and former Director of European and Eurasian affairs at the US National Security Council, Matthew Bryza, believes that a confrontation between Europe and Russia is brewing.
He shared the statement on the air of the Espresso TV channel.
"Russia is threatening to completely cut off gas supplies to the EU. The winter will be quite uncomfortable for Europeans, but it will be uncomfortable for some large businesses, not homes. These will be cold times for Europe. According to opinion polls in Germany, Germans are ready for lower temperatures in their homes, are ready for a certain slowdown in economic growth," Bryza emphasized.
The diplomat also added that the real challenge will be to change the minds of Europeans in the middle of winter, if it will be very cold, and if the discomfort exceeds the readiness to confront the Russian Federation.
"Europe is demonstrating its readiness to resist Russian energy blackmail, in the event of which Russia will be dealt a devastating economic blow. The Kremlin will not be able to continue financing military actions against Ukraine in the spring. Europeans understand that Russia must be stopped on the battlefield," Bryza noted.
