EU should respond to Russia's gas blackmail - Ukrainian Foreign Ministry
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleh Nikolenko says that, in response to Russian officials' mockery and Russia's energy blackmail, the EU should end its dependence on Russian gas
Nikolenko posted his reaction on Twitter.
"Russian officials and propagandists publicly laugh at Europe's emergency measures against the background of Russia's energy blackmail. They are encouraged by the fact that they can cause more damage. The only way to resist this mafia extortion is to strike back and completely stop depending on Russian gas", Nikolenko noted.
Earlier, on July 26, the energy ministers of the EU countries reached a political agreement on the voluntary reduction of gas consumption in the coming winter.
The plan includes a binding target of reducing consumption by 15% in emergency situations, such as a serious disruption of supplies from Russia, although it includes certain exceptions for particularly vulnerable countries.
The EU took this step after a sharp reduction in Russian gas supplies by Gazprom.
