Polish Radio reports.

The lower house of the Polish parliament calls on the European Commission to impose sanctions on the import of Russian and Belarusian food and agricultural products into the European Union.

The resolution states that imports of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus continue to bring large revenues to producers, traders and budgets of these countries.

According to Polish Radio, 441 deputies voted in favor, while two abstained from voting. The draft was prepared by the Sejm Presidium.

Representatives of the Civic Committee, MP Marta Wcislo, said that Poland should convince the entire European community to oppose the regimes and stand in solidarity with Ukraine, but not at the expense of farmers.

"The resolution meets the needs of Polish and European farmers, is the voice of the Polish parliament, and at the same time strengthens the position of the Polish government in negotiations with the European Union. The document calls on the European Union to return to the rules that were in force in trade with Ukraine and other non-EU countries before the start of the full-scale war, which meets the basic requirements of Polish farmers," the politician said.

"It is our moral obligation to stop trade that can directly or indirectly contribute to the strengthening of Russia and Belarus, which supports the former, to continue the war with Ukraine. Especially since Russian imports may be grain stolen from the occupied territories of Ukraine," the document says.

  • On February 22, the Latvian Sajm decided to ban the import of agricultural products and animal feed from Russia and Belarus.
