Poland and Greece call on European Commission to create pan-European air defense system
On May 23, the prime ministers of Poland and Greece, Donald Tusk and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, submitted a letter to the European Commission calling for the creation of a pan-European air defense system
Tusk said this during an interview with TVP Info, Reuters reports.
"I sent a letter to the European Commission, together with Prime Minister Mitsotakis, regarding a common European defence policy," he said.
According to him, there has already been a very positive reaction from the European Commission to make missile defense a common task for Europe, because it will cost a lot of money.
He also noted that European countries should stop competing in the development of their air defense systems and start cooperating, including joint investments in the defense industry.
"Only a strong, united Europe that pursues a common defence policy... will be able to prevent war. We are preparing for war not because this war is going to happen, but so that it won't happen," Tusk emphasized.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted: "We need less fragmentation and common projects. Like an air defence shield as proposed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Donald Tusk."
