EU members refuse to recognize, now or in the future, Russia's illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory
Over 25 EU countries strongly reject and unconditionally condemn Russia's illegal annexation of Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions
This is noted in the statement of the European Council.
"We strongly reject and unconditionally condemn Russia's illegal annexation of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions of Ukraine. Deliberately undermining the rules-based international order and grossly violating Ukraine's fundamental rights to independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, the basic principles enshrined in the UN Charter and international right, Russia endangers global security," the members of the European Council stated in the document.
27 EU member states declared that "Crimea, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk are Ukraine. We call on all states and international organizations to unconditionally renounce this illegal annexation."
It is noted that nuclear threats from the Kremlin, military mobilization, the strategy of misrepresenting the territory of Ukraine as the territory of Russia, and statements that the war may currently take place on the territory of Russia will not shake the determination of the EU countries.
"We will intensify our restrictive measures in response to Russia's illegal actions. They will further increase the pressure on Russia to end its war of aggression. We reiterate that the European Union firmly supports Ukraine and will continue to provide strong economic, military, social, and financial support to Ukraine as much as needed," the statement added.
