Is Ukraine ready to cooperate with new European Parliament?
A few thoughts on what Ukraine should do after the election of the new European Parliament
We need to start communicating and working with all the parties that have been elected to the European Parliament. That's right, with all of them. But not with all deputies. We are not interested in those who are in contact with the Kremlin because we cannot cooperate with them.
''They have a contract. They have exchanged European values for the Russian price. We cannot convince them. And we do not need to buy them off.''
But it is not only the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that should start working with the newly elected EU members, but first and foremost the members of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament - Ed.). After all, this is the European Parliament, not the European Ministry. And also everyone who has contacts and good relations with members of the newly elected European Parliament, without being tied to the pro-government team.
And then it's a matter of being able to communicate and create new contacts. We also need the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to become more active in cooperation with Ukraine's communities in Europe. But this requires the Ministry to work and not just follow the orders of the Presidential Administration.
We need to involve everyone we have, and even more Europeans, in this cooperation. Everyone from religious leaders and scholars to opinion leaders in the EU, from LGBTQ+ activists to cultural figures who sympathize with Ukraine.
This is a big systemic work in favor of Ukraine. And it must be implemented. But when ignorant, stupid, and corrupt people are at the helm of the country, we cannot hope for adequacy and pragmatism of the authorities in this matter, just as we cannot hope for a Government of National Unity. Because the government does not need it. Unfortunately.
