EU doesn't include Russian diamond mining giant in sanctions list - media
The EU has not included the Alrosa diamond mining giant in the 8th sanctions package against Russia
EUobserver writes about this.
According to the publication, the European Commission proposed to include Alrosa in the black list in the draft sanctions.
Brussels said that Alrosa directly financed the new submarine, and also poured billions of euros a year into the Kremlin's military purse.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also boasted that this state-owned company provides him with "serious" income.
But over the weekend, the company was excluded from the list of 29 individuals and seven legal entities, in respect of which the EU will introduce a ban and freeze assets.
According to diplomats, Alrosa did not enter into the final agreement on the new package of sanctions, which was signed in Brussels on Wednesday morning.
Belgium's Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the decision, but it came after Belgian diplomats and lobbyists at the Antwerp Diamond Center warned that a crackdown on Russian diamond exports would cost thousands of jobs in the city, home to the world's largest diamond exchange.
