Politico reported the information, citing an EU diplomat and a national official.
This information was reportedly sent to EU member state capitals late Monday evening.
According to reports, the sanctions issue was removed from the Coreper II meeting agenda due to pressure from the U.S. administration under Donald Trump and the EU on Slovakia and Hungary to reduce their dependence on Russian oil.
It is currently unclear when the sanctions will be announced. A European Commission spokesperson declined to comment.
