ERR reported the information.

“Since in Northeastern Estonia we already have a good natural obstacle in the form of the Narva River, and to the east Lake Peipus, then in Southeastern Estonia, in order to stop the enemy, the plan is to build 40 kilometers of anti-tank ditch. That is, along the entire stretch of border where it is needed,” said Lt Col. Ainar Afanasjev of Estonian Defense Forces (EDF).

He emphasized that Estonia must complete the 40-kilometer ditch by the end of 2027. By that time, the country is also expected to have up to 600 bunkers.

The defense zone along Estonia’s eastern border will stretch 100 km in length and around 40 kilometers deep, from the land border.

“From now on, the anti-tank ditches will be dug inside the delay fence, with dragon's teeth and barbed wire installed alongside,” the report added.

  • Latvia closed its airspace over the eastern border with Russia and Belarus starting September 11, following an armed forces risk assessment.
