Turkey's position was outlined in an update on the president's official website.
It gives details of a phone call between Erdoğan and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“President Erdoğan noted that Turkiye could not have a positive view of Sweden and Finland's NATO membership so long as these countries did not show that they would be in solidarity with Turkiye concerning fundamental issues, combatting terrorism in particular."
Erdoğan also reassured NATO that he sincerely supports it's open door policy, and that the question of Sweden and Finland’s membership lies in these countries' attitude to Turkey's "vital and national security interests."
