Energy imports, 10th sanctions package, demilitarization of ZNPP: Shmyhal meets with European Commission Vice-President in Kyiv
Ukraine's PM Denys Shmyhal has met with the European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans in Kyiv and discussed a number of issues, including sanctions against Rosatom
He wrote about this on Telegram.
He said that the key issues regarding the strengthening of Ukraine's energy sustainability were discussed. Shmyhal noted that work is currently underway in four directions: demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, supply of electrical equipment, opportunities to import electricity from the EU, and sanctions against Russia.
The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine is counting on sanctions against Rosatom in the 10th package.
He also noted that the diplomats discussed Ukraine's post-war recovery, in particular, alternative energy.
“Reconstruction should be based on the principles of the green course. Ukraine has significant potential in the field of alternative energy, which will help Europe quickly abandon Russian fossil resources,” Shmyhal explained.
The Ukrainian Prime Minister also thanked Timmermans for the initiative to start a strategic partnership between Ukraine and the EU in the field of renewable gasses and stated that he expects to conclude a corresponding memorandum in the near future.
“The European Commission strongly supports Ukraine throughout the entire period of Russia's full-scale aggression. I thank Frans Timmermans for the visit and another signal of the EU's solidarity with our country in matters of emergency aid and post-war reconstruction,” the message says.
