Elections in times of war is very dangerous process – Syumar

In a commentary for LB.ua, MP from the European Solidarity faction, Viktoria Syumar, noted that elections during the war can trigger dangerous processes within the state

As stated in the article "Post-war elections: when and by what rules?", Syumar is convinced that the government is really preparing for elections during the war: "If they are already talking about territories where voting will be impossible. That is, they will not wait for full de-occupation. Although, of course, holding elections before martial law is abolished directly contradicts the Constitution and the law."

"We are getting information that a new bloc is already being formed. There will be a conversation on Bankova Street (Presidential Office - ed.) with opinion leaders from the regions about the formation of a completely new political project. Not the Servant of the People, but a new ruling party. Perhaps it will be not just one project, but several... The unofficial sociology we have seen is already "measuring" the rating of the Azov party. They are juggling different options," she added.

"Any election is the end of unity, because it is always a competition and a struggle. In a full-scale war, we have to compete only with the enemy. Therefore, those who press the "Start" button of the election campaign can simultaneously launch a very dangerous process. Because in reality, there are already a lot of dissatisfied people whose relatives are still in captivity, who have lost their homes and loved ones, and who are not being paid the promised compensation. All this can end very badly."

Viktoriia Syumar also criticized the idea of voting through the Diia app, which violates one of the main criteria for expressing one's will – secrecy. "You need to enter personal information in Diia. It is impossible to ensure the secrecy of voting there a priori. However, the authorities are still considering this possibility," noted Viktoriia Syumar.
