The report says that the ECHR has made additional decisions on the next procedural step in the interstate case Ukraine v. Russia (Crimea). The case concerns Ukraine's allegations about systematic violations of the European Convention on Human Rights by the Russian authorities in the annexed Crimea since February 2014.
At a meeting on November 8, the court will consider the merits of the complaints that have already been declared admissible, as well as the admissibility and merits of the case of "political prisoners" and the complaint of "convicts".
The ECHR recalled that on December 16, 2020, Ukraine's complaint was declared partially admissible, finding that the complaints fell under Russia's "jurisdiction" given the "actual control" it had over Crimea since February 27, 2014.
"After completion of the written procedure, the Court has informed the parties that it would serve the interests of the proper administration of justice that the Court hold a hearing on the admissibility and merits of the case, and has provisionally scheduled this to be held on 8 November 2023," the statement quoted by Deutsche Welle said.
