DPRK supplies weapons to Wagner PMC. US submits evidence of sanctions violations to UN
The US provided to the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee evidence of the North Korean regime's supply of weapons to the Russian Wagner PMC for use in the war against Ukraine
The US has provided the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee with evidence of the North Korean regime's supply of weapons to the Russian Wagner PMC for use in the war against Ukraine.
This was announced at a briefing in Washington by White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby, Ukrinform reports.
"We have seen how the representatives of the North Korean authorities falsely denied the supply of weapons to the Wagner PMC," the White House spokesman said.
He reminded that the US has already reported specific cases of such supplies, and now has evidence. In particular, Kirby showed journalists the relevant satellite images.
"These images show that on 18 November, five Russian rail cars left Russia for North Korea. The next day, North Korea loaded these railway cars, containers, after which the train returned to Russia," he explained.
The official noted that the supply of weapons from the DPRK to Russia is a direct violation of the UN Security Council resolution.
"So today we shared information about these violations with the group of experts of the RB Committee on Sanctions Against North Korea. We will continue to speak about these violations in the Security Council together with our allies and partners," Kirby emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that the volume of supplies from North Korea to the Wagner PMC did not change the dynamics of hostilities in Ukraine. However, according to Kirby, Russia seeks to continue receiving weapons from the DPRK.
"We obviously condemn North Korea's actions, and we urge North Korea to cease these deliveries to Wagner immediately," the White House National Security Council representative summarized.
- On January 20, the United States recognized the Wagner PMC as a transnational criminal organization.
