Diplomat Chaly: The model of "we give weapons to Ukraine and you stop Russia" doesn’t suit us

Diplomat Valeriy Chaly believes that regular troops of Western countries should also participate in the war against Russia for the sake of future collective security

He expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV channel

"Let's fantasize a little bit. Let's imagine that there will be no political decision on Ukraine's accession to NATO. Then Ukraine will have to gather around it a group of countries that will be interested in collective security. These could be Poland, the Baltic states, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. Such an organization with strong positions could be a solution for us. Because these countries will be comparable to Russia in terms of population and will be able to withstand Russian aggression. The only problem may be that this could split NATO. And Ukraine does not want to do this at this stage," explained Chaly.

The diplomat emphasized that Western countries should also take part in the war against Russia.

"Everyone in Europe, the United States and Canada understands that no country is now ready to send as many troops against Russia as Ukraine. Trained, motivated and professional military. That is why the population of these countries is very positive about providing weapons to Ukraine, because their people are not dying. We are very grateful to their volunteers, but their regular troops are not taking part in this war. Therefore, we should not refuse and bargain for other models than participation in the war, including regular troops of other countries. If we agree to a model where we are armed and we deter Russia, it will be a defeat for Ukraine. This is not right for us," he added.
