Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said this on May 29.
“The war in Ukraine is happening at a very critical time with a serious situation on the battlefield, and so Ukraine needs all the support it can get,” Frederiksen said.
The fund was established in March, when a majority in the Danish parliament agreed to contribute 7 billion Danish kroner to it.
Now the government will allocate 7.5 billion, which will mean a total of 14.5 billion to the fund this year. And next year, the government will allocate another 10.4 billion to the fund.
“Right now, Ukrainians need our weapons and our support, so it is urgent. But there is nothing to suggest that next year will be a year of peace, so we are already allocating more than ten billion in 2024,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
In early May, the Danish parliament decided to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth 1.7 billion Danish kroner (over USD 250 million), the largest ever provided by Copenhagen.
