Czech Republic outraged after Orban compares EU to Hitler's plans
The Czech Republic is indignant at the statement of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who compared European integration to Adolf Hitler's aspirations for world domination
This is reported by Euroactiv.
“The Byzantines, Charlemagne, Bismarck, Napoleon and Hitler all dreamed of European unity, albeit within different principles, and referred subsequently to the idea of 'ever closer union'” Orban said on Friday in Veszprém, western Hungary.
The Czech Republic said that no one is keeping Hungary in the EU.
“No one is forcing Hungarians to be part of this community if they feel this uncomfortable,” Czech Foreign Minister Lipavský said in a TV debate on Czech Television on Sunday.
In her turn, Czech European Commissioner Věra Jourová, when asked whether she considers Hungary a democratic country, replied: “I have long-standing doubts about this.”
