Explosions rock Sevastopol: Russia claims downing 4 ATACMS missiles, 2 dead
The occupying Russian troops in Crimea reported explosions in different parts of Sevastopol on June 23. They claimed that the Russian air defense system shot down four ATACMS missiles, and at least three people killed
The ASTRA Telegram channel first reported the explosions at 12:16 p.m..
"Explosions are heard in Sevastopol, traffic on the Crimean bridge is blocked," the message said.
At 12:21 p.m., the so-called governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhayev confirmed air defense activity and urged residents to stay calm.
According to another local Telegram channel, air defense was active in the Kozacha Bay and Molochna Balka areas at 12:17 p.m.
"A siren was activated in the military unit, then came loud sounds, and the ground shook," the channel noted.
Explosions were also reported on Astana Kesayeva Street and in Balaklava.
According to preliminary information from the Rescue Service, 12 people, including two children, sustained shrapnel wounds in the area of Uchkuivka. Two people were also wounded in Liubymivka.
Razvozhayev stated that a house caught fire in a residential area on the northern side as a result of the rocket fragments falling on the territory of the residential sector.
In addition, in the area of the Lazur boarding house, a forest of 150 m² is allegedly on fire. According to Razvozhayev, as of 1:26 p.m., two people, including a two-year-old child, were allegedly killed in the attack in Sevastopol, and the number of people seeking medical assistance has increased to 22.
The Russian Defense Ministry reports the downing of four ATACMS
Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the alleged downing of four American ATACMS tactical missiles.
"During the repulsion of a terrorist attack by air defense forces, four American ATACMS missiles were shot down," the ministry said. According to the report, another missile deviated from its flight path and exploded in the air over the city as a result of air defense at the final stage.
Sevastopol residents complain about the lack of sirens and air raid alerts
In Sevastopol chat rooms, people began to complain about the local warning system, claiming that traditional sirens were not heard during the attack, reports Crimean Channel.
