Costa: EU to fund Ukraine in 2026–2027, Russia should take note

European Council President António Costa announced this at a press conference following the EU leaders’ summit in the early hours of October 24, according to a European Pravda correspondent.

European Council President António Costa said that Russia must understand Ukraine will have the necessary funds to sustain its defense for the next two years. 

He noted that EU leaders have pledged to cover Ukraine’s financial needs during this period and, in their October 23 conclusions, urged the European Commission to propose options ensuring Ukraine has the resources to continue defending itself and pursuing a just, lasting peace in 2026 and 2027, if required.

• On October 23, the European Union formally approved the 19th package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia through a written procedure.
