Concert for 100th anniversary of Shchedryk in New York: to support Ukraine's reconstruction
A portion of the funds from the concert marking the 100th anniversary of the North American premiere of Shchedryk (known as the Ukrainian Bell Carol), which is to be held in New York's Carnegie Hall, will go toward Ukraine's reconstruction
This was announced by Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Facebook.
The ministry noted that 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the premiere of the Ukrainian composition Shchedryk, known in the world as Carol of the Bells, at Carnegie Hall, New York's most prestigious concert hall. On this occasion, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian Institute and the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival are organizing a big concert Notes from Ukraine, which will take place on December 4 in the same concert hall.
"This year marks the 100th anniversary of the famous tour of Oleksandr Koshytsia UNR Chapel in the US, during which they first performed the now beloved Shchedryk. Given the popularity of the song a century later, the tour demonstrated the success of Ukrainian cultural diplomacy. We perceive this year's holiday as a great opportunity to celebrate Ukrainian centuries-old culture and statehood at a time when Russia is trying to destroy them. I am sure that this event will make those present understand what we are defending and why Ukraine will win," the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, emphasized.
Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the Carnegie Hall box office or on the website. Part of them will be directed to the reconstruction of Ukraine through the UNITED24 platform.
