Ukraine exhibits stand of Russia-bombed stadium in Germany ahead of Euro 2024 opening
Ahead of the Ukrainian team’s first match at Euro 2024 on June 17, a stand from Kharkiv's Sonyachny stadium, damaged by Russia in 2022, was installed in Munich, Germany

Russian troops fired at the Sonyachny stadium in Kharkiv on May 20, 2022, destroying the stands. The missiles also hit the football field. Parts of a stand from Kharkiv’s Sonyachny stadium was displayed in a square in Munich.

This stadium was built on the eve of Euro 2012 which Ukraine co-hosted. The Dutch national team trained there during the tournament. Sonyachny also hosted the Women's Cup final in the 2019-2020 season and served as a venue for the men's national team.

Part of the stand will be opened by the President of the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF), Andriy Shevchenko on Monday, June 17. Fans will be able to tour the entire damaged stadium using virtual reality headsets. The exhibition will then be transported to Düsseldorf, where Ukraine will play against Slovakia on Friday.
