"Authorities start preparing for elections": Political scientist Reiterovych on the Ministry of Unity
Political scientist Ihor Reiterovych believes that the main role of the newly established Ministry of Unity will be preparing polling stations abroad and ensuring the conditions are in place for the electoral process to resume
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"As far as I understand, the primary goal of the Ministry of Unity will be setting up polling stations abroad. They will now actively focus on this task and figure out how to involve as many Ukrainians abroad as possible in the voting process. Mr. Chernyshov (Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for National Unity of Ukraine - ed.) will have plenty to do. He’ll need to visit numerous countries and handle these key issues. I don’t think he’ll spend much time in Ukraine, as he’ll often be on business trips. In my opinion, this is essentially a rebranding of the Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories into the Ministry of Unity, and the problems of internally displaced persons will remain neglected as they were before," Reiterovych explained.
The political scientist also said that a 2025 election scenario is being discussed, meaning preparations for the election process are already underway.
"I think this whole election preparation effort will be framed as creating communication centers for our displaced citizens. But these centers can easily be turned into polling stations later. From what I know, the Ministry of Unity’s key mission is election preparation. One task will be determining how many Ukrainians are abroad and figuring out how to leverage this electoral resource. Based on what’s coming from the government, this process is expected to culminate in 2025," he added.
- For context, on Tuesday, December 3, Oleksiy Chernyshov was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine.
