Christians of the world renounce Kirill and the Russian Orthodox Church because of support for Putin's aggression in Ukraine
Christian communities around the world are beginning to distance themselves from Patriarch Kirill of Moscow because of their support for Russian armed aggression against Ukraine
It is reported by Reuters, informs Espresso.TV.
Kirill was condemned by some Orthodox church leaders for supporting the Kremlin and the war in Ukraine. Kirill was condemned by the head of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria, Patriarch Theodore II, the head of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Daniel, and the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Finland, Archbishop Lev.
In addition, the World Council of Churches, which unites communities of various Christian denominations and denominations, turned to Kirill. The Acting General Secretary of the Council, Father John Sauk, in a letter asked Kirill "to intervene and become an intermediary between the authorities in order to stop this war".
Kirill sent back a letter in which he expressed his belief that the forces openly declaring their hostile intentions towards Russia have come close to the borders of Russia, and that the West has launched a full-scale geopolitical strategy against Russia.
Journalists noted that, according to experts, Pope Francis will now also not hold a second meeting with Kirill. Their first meeting in Cuba in 2016 was the first ever conversation between the heads of both churches.
Inside the Russian Orthodox Church, signs of internal dissent were also noticed due to Kirill's support for Putin's actions.
About 300 members of the public organization "Russian Priests for Peace" signed a letter condemning the "murderous orders" carried out in Ukraine. In the letter, they noted that "the people of Ukraine should decide their own fate on their own, not at gunpoint and without pressure from both the West and the East".
The Russian-speaking Orthodox parish of St. Nicholas in Amsterdam decided to sever ties with Moscow and stop remembering the name of Kirill in prayers during the liturgy. The statement says that they "made such a decision with pain in their hearts."
In addition, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate also opposed the Russian-Ukrainian war. Metropolitan Onufry of Kyiv called for an end to the "fratricidal war," and the head of the Sumy diocese, Evlogy, ordered the priests not to remember the name of Kirill in prayers during the liturgy.
Kirill supported Russia's war against Ukraine due to the fact that Russia is fighting in Ukraine with the destructive influence of Western culture.
