Captured Azov fighters in Olenivka may have been killed in thermostatic blast - Prosecutor General
Ukrainian prisoners of war in occupied Olenivka in Donetsk region were killed in an explosion, possibly caused by thermobaric weapons.
This was reported in the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine in response to DW's request.
As the office emphasizes, the source could be "a capsule with a combustible mixture of a thermobaric explosion of flamethrowers of the type Dzmil, Dzmil-M, Lynx.
The investigation reached this conclusion based on the analysis of freely available video recordings, with the participation of specialists on the use of radiation, chemical and biological defense units and units, identification of ammunition and the use of engineering units and units.
"At the same time, in the criminal proceedings, a comprehensive forensic examination of the weapon and the traces and circumstances of its use, as well as explosive and fire-technical examinations, is underway," added the Prosecutor General's Office.
The pre-trial investigation under part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war combined with intentional murder) is ongoing.
