By blowing up Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam, Russians wanted shorter frontline, consolidate forces — military expert Seleznyov
Vladyslav Seleznyov, military expert, colonel of Ukrainian Armed Forces, spokesman of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2014-2017, noted that the enemy is directing its troops from the south of Kherson region to more critical areas of the front
He stated this on Espreso.
“Since February 2022, it is widely believed that the Russians took control of the dam in the Nova Kakhovka area. It is clear that they were responsible for planting explosives and causing the detonation. The main purpose of this action was purely military. By destroying the Kakhovka dam, the enemy now has the advantage of moving their military reserves from the southern Kherson region to other parts of the front. They firmly believe that the Dnipro River now acts as an insurmountable obstacle for the Ukrainian army,” he said.
According to the military expert, the width of the Dnipro River has increased, and the riverbanks are heavily filled with sediment. This makes it technically impossible to force a crossing of the river.
This means that the Russians have freed up resources and reserves, redirecting them to other critical areas of the front. They destroyed the dam to create a shorter frontline, concentrate their forces, and fortify their positions, aiming to impede any Ukrainian counteroffensive as much as possible.
