British intelligence names key weapon to counter Russian aggression in Black Sea
Ukrainian naval drones have become a key capability at sea since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense.
It noted that on November 27, the director of the Russian Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant (KMZ) Mikhail Danilenko said that their development of a surface drone would be "tested in a special military operation" with a view to putting it into mass production in 2024.
The plant used to produce a number of UAVs, but in recent months it has focused on "kamikaze" attack drones. Danylenko noted that the boat can carry ammunition weighing up to 600 kg.
“Navies have employed USVs since the Second World War. However, with modern types resembling speedboats packed with explosives, in the hands of Ukrainian forces they have emerged as a key capability in maritime domain since Russia’s full-scale invasion,” the intelligence service believes.
