British intelligence explains why Russia's attempts to take Bakhmut have reached deadlock

Russia's attempts to capture Bakhmut have stalled due to heavy losses and exhaustion of Russian troops

The British Ministry of Defence reported on Twitter.

British military intelligence has concluded that the Russian assault on Bakhmut has reached a deadlock.

"This is primarily the result of the extreme attrition of the Russian  forces. Ukraine has also suffered heavy casualties during its defence," the analysts stated.

They also pointed out that the situation in Russia has also worsened due to tensions between the Russian Defence Ministry and the Wagner PMC, whose units are fighting in Bakhmut.

"Russia has likely shifted its operational focus towards Avdiivka, south of Bakhmut, and the Kreminna-Svatove sector in the north, areas where Russia likely only aspires to stabilize its front line. This suggests an overall return to a more defensive operational design after inconclusive results from its attempts to conduct a general offensive since January 2023," the British intelligence concluded.
