British intelligence explains Russia's inability to protect Engels air base
Russian forces transferred "Pantsir" medium-range air defense systems to the front line. Airfields in the deep rear remained unprotected
This is reported by the military intelligence of Great Britain’s Ministry of Defenсe.
"Russia has long given a very high priority to maintaining advanced ground based air defences, but it is increasingly clear that it is struggling to counter air threats deep inside Russia," the report said.
At the same time, one of the problems for Russia is likely to be the exceptional demand for modern medium-range air defense systems, such as the SA-22 Armor, which are expected to play an important role in countering UAVs.
"As well as providing point defence for strategic sites such as Engels, these systems are currently required in large number to protect field headquarters near the front line in Ukraine," the British Ministry of Defense notes.
