British intelligence analyzes Ukrainian Armed Forces' successes and problems in Bakhmut
Ukrainian troops managed to stabilize the defense perimeter in Bakhmut, but the city's supply was hampered by the blowing up of a key bridge by Russians
This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense on Twitter.
British intelligence believes that the Ukrainian defense of Bakhmut continues to degrade forces on both sides. At the same time, analysts point out that over the weekend, Ukrainian forces likely stabilized their defense perimeter following previous Russian advances in the north of the town.
At the same time, around March 2, a Russian strike destroyed a bridge over the only paved road into Bakhmut that was still under Ukrainian control. This led the British to speculate that muddy conditions are likely hampering Ukrainian resupply efforts as they increasingly restored to using unpaved tracks.
British intelligence notes that public disagreements between the Wagner PMC and the Russian Ministry of Defense over the allocation of ammunition highlights the difficulty of sustaining the high levels of personnel and ammunition required to advance with their current tactics.

On March 7, ISW wrote that the continued holding of Bakhmut is important because of the ability to destroy combat-ready Russian units, but the city in Donetsk region is not critical.
