Boxer Usyk dedicates victory over Dubois to Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukraine
On Saturday, August 26, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk triumphed over British fighter Daniel Dubois in a contest for the super heavyweight world champion title
Espreso reports this.
After the victory, Oleksandr Usyk expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your support. I'm dedicating this match to my Ukraine and the Armed Forces."
The Usyk-Dubois bout took place in Wroclaw, Poland, starting after midnight on August 27. The match involved competing for the WBA (World Boxing Association), WBO (World Boxing Organization), and IBF (International Boxing Federation) heavyweight titles.
A significant moment occurred in the 5th round when Daniel Dubois delivered a low blow to Oleksandr Usyk. Consequently, Usyk was unable to remain on his feet. In response, the referee halted the fight due to Dubois' foul move, allowing Usyk a few minutes to recover.
Towards the end of the 8th round, Usyk launched a series of potent punches that sent Dubois to the canvas. Moving into the 9th round, Usyk once again knocked Dubois down.
The referee ultimately concluded the fight prematurely, declaring Usyk the winner via technical knockout.
