Borrell says Ukrainian pilots have begun training on F-16s, Air Force clarify training is "about to start"
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell says that Ukrainian pilots have started training on F-16 fighter jets
Europa Press reported the information.
According to Borrell, the training of Ukrainian pilots has already begun.
"This is the first thing to do, and I hope that soon we could provide Ukraine with these kinds of arms," Borrell said.
He added that he supports the creation of an alliance to supply Ukraine with F-16 combat aircraft and expressed hope that they would soon arrive in Kyiv.
"That is a good initiative. That is a good thing coming out of the G7, that finally they decided to prepare the ground in order to provide Ukraine with the fighter jets they need," Borrell said.
At the same time, in a comment to LIGA.net, the spokesman for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, clarified that the training have not yet begun.
When asked if the timeframe for the start of the exercises was known, he said that they would start soon.
"No, but it's about to start," Ihnat said.
