Poland and Lithuania will print books in Ukrainian for refugees from Ukraine. In particular, Ukrainian publishing houses, including "Morning", "Urbino" and "The Old Lion Publishing House", provided files of their own books, which will be printed and distributed in those countries that hosted children and adults from Ukraine.
Ukrainian Book Institute also promotes the emergence of Ukrainian books abroad. The Institute has already acquired files for about 15 titles, including several new books. "We decided to start with booklets for the little ones. These booklets should be 22-48 pages long, easy to print, and will focus on stories - like fairy tales - that are suitable for children's entertainment", says Ukrainian Book Institute reading specialist Yuriy Marchenko. The goal is to print at least 500 to 1000 copies of each title.
The institute is looking for volunteers to help distribute new books at train stations and refugee centers. In addition, they are looking for more publishing partners in different European countries to help print books, ideally at their own expense, in support of Ukrainian refugees.
"These are all immediate goals", says Marchenko. "The next step will be figuring out how to provide books to schools and libraries in those countries where Ukrainian refugees live, when the need arises".
Also, the Milanese digital content creation company StreetLib is calling for cooperation between Ukrainian publishers and writers.
