Belarusian opposition government terminates agreements on Union State with Russia, Belarus' CIS and CSTO membership
On Saturday, 24 June 2023, the Belarusian Joint Transitional Cabinet, formed from representatives of various political forces, issued a statement on the membership of the Republic of Belarus in the international blocs and organisations created by the Kremlin
The statement was published on the official Telegram channel of the Cabinet.
In particular, it reads:
"The Joint Transitional Cabinet of Ministers of Belarus
- declares that the decisions of Lukashenko's 'government' and his Security Council have no legal force in Belarus and abroad;
- denounces the agreements on the creation of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, announces the withdrawal of the Republic of Belarus from the CSTO, the EAEU and the CIS;
- considers unacceptable the participation of the Belarusian military in the armed conflict in Russia."
The text of the appeal goes on to set out demands to the Belarusian border guards and military. They are the same as those of opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
"In this regard, we demand that the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus immediately close the border between Belarus and Russia, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus ensure the withdrawal of Russian troops from Belarus, and stop preparations for the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus," the statement reads.
The reason for this statement is the military coup in the Russian Federation.
