Serhiy Balanchuk defended Ukraine as part of the Defense Forces. The former football player died as a result of artillery shelling near Bakhmut. He was 47 years old.
During his football career, Balanchuk played for Dynamo Kyiv, Vorskla Poltava, Metalist Kharkiv, and Maccabi Haifa of Israel. He played two games for the youth national team of Ukraine (U-21). Balanchuk also won the Israel Cup.
After completing his career as a football player, Serhiy Balanchuk obtained a law degree and worked in his specialty.
