Antonov constructs new AN-225 Mriya aircraft
Antonov State Enterprise is building the second AN-225 Mriya aircraft after the original was destroyed by Russian troops during the hostilities in Hostomel.
Antonov company has announced the work on twitter.
“There were inaccuracies in the reports by the Bild and some Ukrainian media regarding the words of Antonov State Enterprise’s acting General Director on the production of the new Mriya aircraft. Currently, design work in this direction has begun. According to the available expert assessment, at present, there is about 30 percent of component parts necessary for the second model. The cost of building the aircraft is estimated to be at least EUR 500 million. However, it is too early to talk about a specific number. More information will be available after the victory of Ukraine," the message reads.
Earlier, the Bild published that Yevhen Havrylov, the acting General Director of the state-owned enterprise Antonov, said that Ukraine has started the construction of the second An-225 Mriya aircraft following the destruction of the previous model by Russian forces during the hostilities in Hostomel.
"We are carrying out the works in a secret place. The second An-225 will be complete with both new parts and parts of the damaged aircraft," Havrylov was quoted as saying by the publication.
According to the report published by the media, the second Mriya was apparently already 30% ready, the cost of building the aircraft was estimated at €500 million. Leipzig/Halle international airport, where the Antonov company is temporarily based and a frequent place of destination for the previous model, should have helped to raise the necessary money.
The Facebook page of Antonov Company posted that on November 7, 2022, the international image project "Ukraine: with the Mriya in the Heart" was opened at Leipzig/Halle Airport.
"The project’s goal is to once again show the world what consequences, damage and destruction the "Russian World" (Russkiy Mir) brings about.” According to Oleksiy Makeiev, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, "the event we are present at today is an important element of informing the international community about the destruction that Russian forces are wreaking in Ukraine", the post reads.
