Another ten Ukrainian pilots may arrive in US to master F-16
Two Ukrainians are already at a military base in the USA to determine how long it would take to train them to fly F-16 fighter jets – soon 10 more pilots may join them
This was reported by CNN with reference to three sources.
A US military official told reporters accompanying Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on a trip to the Middle East that Ukrainian pilots had arrived in Tucson, Arizona, for “a familiarization event” that he described as a “routine activity as part of our military-to-military dialogue with Ukraine.”
"The familiarization event is essentially a discussion between the Air Force personnel and an observation of how the US Air Force operates," the official clarified.
According to him, “there are no updates to provide regarding F-16s to Ukraine.”
Although there are currently no signs that flight training of Ukrainian pilots is underway, their presence at the base in Arizona suggests that the US has not completely closed the door on providing Ukraine with F-16s, writes CNN.
The Ukrainian pilots are being evaluated by the Arizona Air National Guard's 162nd Fighter Wing, which specializes in F-16 fighter training, two US officials said Monday.
One of the officials told CNN that 10 more Ukrainian pilots may come to the US for the same assessment and evaluation.
