An attempt of occupiers to capture Izyum in the Kharkiv region failed, but they blew up bridges, – UP
An attempt of the Russian military to capture the town of Izyum in the Kharkiv region at night of March 8 failed, but the occupiers blew up bridges, and locals are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.
The deputy mayor of Izyum Volodymyr Matsokin reported in a comment for UP.
“At midnight, Russian troops entered the left bank of the Donets, near Izyum. Bridges were blown up. We have no other information so far, because the connection is lost. Izyum has very poor connection. According to the General Staff at midnight, the enemy suffered losses in an attempt to capture the city of Izyum, the occupiers withdrew. But they committed looting there,” said correspondent Irina Hnatiuk.
It is impossible to leave Izyum in an organized way, because the bridges have been destroyed.
According to the journalist, Matsokin compared Izyum to Khatyn (a village in Belarus, which became one of the symbols of the destruction of civilians during World War II).
“The city is completely destroyed, people can't even get humanitarian assistance. That's why locals are asking to organize humanitarian corridors to get this assistance. People have been sitting in basements and shelters for days, food and medicines are running out, there is no water, light, electricity now – and there is no way to restore it,” the publication reports.
