America plans to raise Russia's arms issue purchases from North Korea at UN Security Council
The United States wants to discuss the arms supplies issue from the DPRK to Russia at the Security Council. Exports from North Korea are prohibited by a UN Security Council resolution
This is stated in a statement by US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
"It is despicable that Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is now using weapons procured from the DPRK and Iran – in violation of UN Security Council resolutions – to pursue its war of aggression against Ukraine," Linda Thomas-Greenfield said.
She confirmed that in November the DPRK supplied Russia with missiles for Wagner PMC: "We assess that the amount of material delivered to Wagner will not change battlefield dynamics in Ukraine, but we are concerned that the DPRK is planning to deliver more military equipment to Wagner."
The purchase of weapons from North Korea also destabilizes the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Pyongyang receives funding for banned weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield summed up that the United States intends to raise the issue of Russia's non-compliance with Resolution 1718 at the next meeting of the UN Security Council. The United States will also pass this information to the Sanctions Committee.
